Eerder #Framehugger utility platform Mk7
Note: it doesn't fit the Brompton Electric, email me for more info and options. But it does fit the Brompton G-line both the Electric and the manual version.
Note2: it can only be strapped to the Brompton T-line and not bolted bacause of the bigger frame tube diameter (see method 2 below)
This is the 7th iteration of the #mainframehugger aluminium luggage platform. The Mk7 is different from the Mk6 on just one aspect, which is the design of the tombstone section. It now fully matches the design of the platform. It still features the 4 longer slots in the outer positions which were introduced on the Mk6 version (next to the big corner holes), these are slightly longer to accomodate 25 mm wide webbing like the #stickystrips and the Voilé Rack strap hooks . The other slots are long enough for the standard 20 mm wide Voilé straps.
It feautures 3 ways to attach it to your frame, just as the Mk5
- One being the U bolts as before, but this time with countersunk stainless steel sleeve nuts, this method is for Brompton frames only. The U bolt set is included with each platform set.
- The second method is strapping it to your Brompton mainframe, stem! or saddle with Voilé straps for fast on and off your bike. Don't use this method if your kids stand on it! You can find the 12" Voilé straps in the Voilé straps section. Use two 12" Nano straps for attaching the platform to you saddle and seatpost. Use two 12" standard Voilé straps for attaching the platform to you main frame or stem.
- And the third method is for non Brompton frames and forks: use M5 bolts to mount it to your frame or fork bottle bosses, you can use three bolts / bosses if your bike has them, other wise just two. If you haven't got bottle bosses you can use the King Cage Universal support bolts sold by Justpedal.nl around the corner here.
The main purpose of the #framehugger is to strap a narrow (dry)bag, case, box, tent or other narrow (maybe even long) stuff safe and secure to your Brompton.
I personally use it to bring small boxes to the post office, store my lock, for multi-day cycling trips, for my Crocs, transport gas bottles for welding and brazing to the supplier for a refill. One hand on the bottle and the other hand on the bar. Don't try this at home, but it can be done ;-)
Assembly instructions:
Start with sticking the rubber patch on the main frame, approximately 12 cm from the center of the hinge and put the platform right on top, 7.5 cm from the center of the hinge, add the bolts, secure the nuts evenly, check if the platform is tight and level and you're done! The idea is that the oval chamber/cutout on the underside of the platform should be right on top of the bend section of the main frame and positioned on the rubber patch so the paint of your Brompton doesn't get damaged.
See the pics for the ultimate position. You can play with it for like max 2 cm to either side.
- Made from CNC machined 6mm thick 6000 series aluminium, for now the finish is RAW stone tumbled, (looks cool, kinda like hot zinc galvanised) or black anodised.
- platform size: 100x210 mm and 6 mm thick
Included are:
- 1 alu platform with tombstone section and 6" Nano strap
- oval piece of rubber made from used Bicycle inner tubes as a protective layer between the platform and the main frame
- 2 pc. stainless steel M8 U bolts with PVC protective hose, stainless steel nuts with countersunk heads
- 14 threaded holes (M5) for attachment of whatever you like to bolt on to it, a trumpet case maybe, a pump clamp on the underside? Two threads on either side are spaced on the standard bottle boss distance in case you want to add something which is designed to be bolted to bottle bosses.
- 24 slots for straps (for instance Voilé straps, regular and Nano), 2 of them are open on the side to feed a long strap through the opening. The narrow slots are 22 mm x 5 mm wide, but 4 of these are 25.5mm long to be able to use either 1" wide straps or the Voilé Rack straps with Nylon hooks
- the four bigger holes on the corners are for attaching Rok straps (seperately available in this webshop) or for feeding the straps of a rack bag through.
- CNC engraved EERDERXPLORER logo
- total weight 286 grams
- Optional extra: 14 pc. M5x12mm pointy grip pins plus a 10 gram bottle of blue thread locking glue. With these grip pins you can add grip to the circumference of the platform so your child (or feather weight friend) can stand on it. Just like platform pedals, but don't put your tent on top of these pins...
