The Eerder Xplorer bag can be modestly sized when you want it to be, with no pockets attached. Or have up to six outer pockets, each over 2 liters, when it needs to be spacious. The Eerder Xplorerbag development really kicked off in November 2020 (had been working on a different appraoch before that) and after 8 quite intense months of development together with Radical Design and Halley Stevensons, dozens of sketches, CAD designs and revisions, over 200 emails, over 10 hours on the phone, 3 prototypes, months of real life testing and a shear endless stream of changes and optimizations, the Eerder metaal #Xplorerbag was introduced in the Mk1 design back in August 2021. Since then over a hundred Xplorer bags have been sold to customers around the globe from Japan to Canada.
Note1: not all photos are updated yet and still show the MK2 bag. The Mk3 bag features flaps with Velcro closure on the internal pockets, rather than just Velcro straps and Antracite color annodised G hooks rather than silver G hooks.
Note2: I'm pretty sure you will appreciate the Eerder Stoppy bar to prevent the bag from tilting towards the front. It will keep the Xplorer bag perfectly straight up and makes the main compartment and the pockets easily accessible.
This modular design consists of the following items:
- a roll top main bag with a multi functional shoulder/waist strap and a duffle handle (to carry the bag in it's center of gravity) , two internal aluminum frames and a 10mm thick EVAkork foam bottom for shape and rigidity.
- Note: (by default it comes without pockets, but you can add up to 7 pockets if you like, max 6 can be attached to the bag)
- optional detachable pockets with 4 Velcro straps at the back which can double as a handlebar bag, saddle bag, hip bag or a chest bag when combined with the shoulder/waist strap that comes with the main bag)
- an optional very comfy backpack harness can be added, the bag will be in portrait on your back, so rotated 90 degrees. Up to around 10 kg will be comfortable, maybe more...The harness consists of two padded and adjustable back straps, a chest strap and a lower back pad. (more details will follow)
It's hand made by Radical Design in the Netherlands. We used a tough yellow PU coated Cordura 500D Ripstop inside fabric (it's not just the liner, but also constructional) made in Germany and @halleystevensons waxed Canvas outer fabric from Scotland. This bag is waterproof, plus it will stay water repellent as long as you take care of partially rewaxing it every once in a few years. It might serve you for the rest of your life if you take care of it.
A maximum of six pockets can be attached with sturdy Velcro straps to the Square loops in the top seam and the daisy chain on the bottom. They're 2.25 liter each or a little more. The main compartment is 25 liter or a few liters more when you stuff it a little higher than the internal frame. By default it comes without pockets, but with luggage frame, aluminium internal support frame, EVA bottom panel and shoulder strap / waist band. You can order pockets in pairs. With 6 pockets it would be 39 liter capacity (or a little more)
Non EU customers get the VAT deducted, which is 21% in the Netherlands, so that compensates for the shipping cost and more! Customers from within the EU pay their local VAT rate.
