Eerder metaal Model 4.3 #Seatposthugger (Hope QR clamp has to be ordered separately)
Product Details

Note: Hope 38.5mm QR clamp has to be ordered separately! (I won't take orders without it)

Note: the photos with the red Brompton show the Model 2 which is no longer available and has been suceeded by the Model 4.3

The #Seatposthugger Model 4.3 has a changed design of the top and the bottom plate. The top plate now features a 6mm hole so you can attach the Brompton magnetic pedal holder, nicely tucked inside. (yes, Brompton now also has a magnetic holder, a product I'm making and selling for several years. Mine is compatible with the time proven MKS Ezy Superior system and fits a lot of pedals in the broad range) This magnetic pedal holder from Brompton normally doubles as a brake nut for the front brake at the back side of the fork crown. Now only Bromptons from 2017 onwards have a big enough hole in the fork crown to fit this Brompton pedal holder. So if you like their QR pedals and the matching holder but have a pre 2017 bike you can mount the holder inside the Model 4.3 Seatposthugger.

Comparing the #Seatposthugger Model 4.2 to the model 4.1: the lower plate no longer wraps around the full tube circumference and is now similar to the upper plate. This minimizes braze time and Acethylene gas and it's still more than strong enough. Just like the 4.1 it has a brazed on clamp boss for adjusting the play on the seatpost for when the Hope QR clamp is released. This enables easy sliding and wear adjustment on all different seatposts for Brompton. The original Brompton seat sleeve is no longer glued in place, but installed using carbon assembly paste. This causes enough friction to prevent rotation of the sleeve inside the seatposthugger. This minimizes production time (and thus price increase) and the Cyanoacrylate glue is a nasty chemical. Sleeve replacement, if ever needed, is a very simple job now. The sleeve doesn't need any reaming, play is adjusted with the bolt at the bottom.

The seatposthugger is a luggage carrier which is designed to hold the Brompton front carrier block and clamps onto your Brompton 31.8mm seatpost. It's only compaitble with the plastic carrier block of Brompton and copies made by other brands like Trigo. It's not compatible with CNC-ed aluminium carrier blocks and not with the Eerder metaal #Allsteelcarrierblock

  • Bronze flame brazed and Tig fusion welded
  • 4130 thin wall Chromoly tube and laser cut Domex 700 high strength steel plate sections (the real deal! it's amazing)
  • including the original Brompton front carrier block,
  • low friction Hope clamp with quick release in Silver, black, orange, purple, blue or red
  • the original Brompton seat post sleeve
  • weight complete Model 4.1 including the Brompton front carrier block: 340 gram

Installing the Seatposthugger Model 4.2:

Check the video below for instructions on how to remove the saddle and remove the secondary clamp in case you have a telescopic seatpost.

So in case you have a standard or extended (60 mm longer plain) seatpost you just remove the saddle and slide the Seatposthugger onto the post.

In case you have a telescopic seatpost you can remove the saddle with the secondary seatpost still attached to it. Then remove the secondary clamp, slide the Seatposthugger onto the seatpost, install the clamp again
Note: In case you have a post 2017 Brompton with telescopic seatpost you can remove the secondary clamp by pressing a thin object into the little hole in order to press the underlying plastic latch you see in the video. While pressing the thin object you can slide the clamp down 3 inches or more. Then remove the plastic sleeve from the seatpost by again pressing the integrated latch and slide the seatposthugger onto the seatpost. Install the secondary clamp like shown in the video.
Note: In case you have a pre 2017 Brompton with telescopic seatpost the secondary clamp is secured to the seatpost with a small Allen bolt and special nut inside the plastic sleeve. Undo the bolt with a properly fitting Allen key but be careful to not lose it or lose the washer. The little special nut can be pressed out with the bolt or the allen key. In case you have a seatpost bung on the underside the nut will fall inside the post and ends up on the bung. Turn around the seatpost to free the nut. If the seatpost has an open end the nut will fall on the ground, so be very careful not to lose it.
Adjusting the Seatposthugger:

The Model 4 can be adjusted to slide freely by opening the Hope Quick release clamp and tighten or loosen the clamp bolt at the bottom to get the desired smooth sliding. It arrives pre adjusted but not all seatposts are exactly the same. This bolt is not meant to be used for clamping, just for play adjustment. You might need to re-adjust the Hope Quick release as well depending on your seatpost.

Happy riding!
