Eerder metaal Quick release derailleur gear kit Extended for Smart Sam 2.35" for Brompton G line
Product Details

Eerder metaal Quick release derailleur gear kit Extended works with Schwalbe Smart Sam 2.35" tires and other tires with the same or smaller actual width and height. For all non Electric G line Bromptons

Only 7 kits are currently being produced.

The derailleur kit consists of:

  1. Left and right stainless steel dropouts including steel dropout bolts
  2. Modified Shimano Saint 10 speed derailleur with B tension system and chain catch cage extender. (shifts crisp with Deore XT 11 speed shifter, chain and cassette, but you can choose 10 speed parts if you prefer)
  3. BB mount adjustable chain hook, stainless steel
  4. Rear rack offsetters to move the rear mudguard (and the rack) up to clear the fatter Smart Sam tyre
  5. Eerder long and low profile Front light mount for Son, stainless steel. This light mount is designed to clear the Son light on the original Brompton luggage frame and the Eerder Full metal Frame on both the plastic Brompton luggage block and the Full metal Bracket for G line. It can also be used for Cateye Ampp lights with the Eerder Ampp light adapter (coming soon). It makes a split mudguard blade possible to clear the fatter Smart Sam tyre. For that you also need the front mudguard offsetters.
  6. Front mudguard offsetters making a split mudguard blade possible to clear the fatter Smart Sam tyre
  7. 160mm XLC disc rotor set Centerlock front and rear. These Extended dropouts only work with a 160mm disc rotor, not the standard 140mm rotor. A a result no FM adapter is needed. The original front Flatmount adapter can be put upside down on the fork to fit the 160mm rotor.
  8. Optional Hope Pro 5 rear hub and Sapim Race spoke set with brass Polyax nipples for the original G-line rim

The kit doesn't include some items:

You just need to order a cassette 11-40 or 11-42, a chain and a trigger shifter at another shop or maybe these are in your parts bin or on a bike you don't use much. I don't include these, so you can opt for 10 speed if you don't want 11 speed.

I make some items mandatory rather than optional, so I don't do partial kits/products with some parts left out. I only add items to a kit or product when I believe it really makes sense for some reason. Parts that are not modified by me and offered by big online stores are regularly the object of discussion (I hear often: can you leave those out cause I already have them in my parts bin...). People like to order parts online at the big price fighters to have more choice, but mostly hoping to save some money. Yet I do need money to be able to develop parts for Brompton conversions or to extend their usability. My parts might look simple but in reality they aren't and take a tremendous amount of time to get everything just right. So I only offer parts that make sense to offer/include and I like to educate people so they understand how things work on my side. I need customers who grant me sales because they appreciate what I'm doing. And I'm lucky to have a lot of customers that do so.

Some more info about these kits. Dealing with the excess chain length when folded is a difficult matter. I spent an awful amount of time dealing with just that issue. I made it work by choosing a derailleur which appears to be very well made and reliable over a long time of use, has a small footprint, not much stick out to the side for folding, extremely short to keep it from being hit by tree roots sticking out of the ground (on a 20" wheeled bike) and big enough to deal with a 11-42 cassette and one that I know how to modify to do just that and make it retract the chain when folding. I'm talking about the Saint derailleur, 10 speed, but works flawlessly with 11 speed shifter and cassette.

So that's what I'm working on, modifying a bunch of Saint derailleurs. I had to buy a whole lot of them, more than I liked, so I will have to use it with every derailleur dropout kit I have made and will make in the future.

Hope you understand. These derailleur conversion kits are currently on the back burner because of all the other work I have to do. Most of the critical parts are in stock. I 'just' have to calculate the price, machine some more parts and do some more assembly work.

You can call me old fashioned but I like bikes to be super reliable and easy serviceable, long lasting, be non electric, non electronic and be able to do repairs in the field with basic tools (road side repairs) for multi day bike adventures. So that's how I design my bikes and the parts that go with it. Hope that appeals to you!
