Eerder metaal Quick release derailleur gear kit Standard for Brompton G line
Product Details

Eerder metaal Quick release derailleur gear kit works with Standard G-line tires of 2.1" width and narrower. Only 7 kits are currently being produced.

The derailleur kit consists of:

  1. Left and right stainless steel dropouts including steel dropout bolts
  2. Modified Shimano Saint 10 speed derailleur with B tension system and chain catch cage extender. (shifts crisp with Deore XT 11 speed shifter, chain and cassette, but you can choose 10 speed parts if you prefer)
  3. BB mount adjustable chain hook, stainless steel
  4. One of the photos shows the Eerder light mount for SON lights, but it no longer is part of the Standard kit
  5. Optional 140 to 160mm Flatmount rear adapter and 160mm Hope disc rotor set front and rear Centerlock. Upgrading to 160mm rotors means more stopping power and cooler running rotors.

The kit doesn't include some items:

You just need to order a cassette 11-40 or 11-42, a compatible chain (118 links for a 50 t front and 11-42 cassette) and a trigger shifter (10 or 11 speed) at another shop or maybe these are in your parts bin or on a bike you don't use much. Highly recommended are the SL-M8000-R 11 speed shifter and a CS-M8000 11-42 cassette. online retailer Bike Discount in Germany is a good source for Shimano components.

Some more info about these kits. Dealing with the excess chain length when folded is a difficult matter. I spent an awful amount of time dealing with just that issue. I made it work by choosing a derailleur which appears to be very well made and reliable over a long time of use, has a small footprint, not much stick out to the side for folding, extremely short to keep it from being hit by tree roots sticking out of the ground (on a 20" wheeled bike) and big enough to deal with a 11-42 cassette and one that I know how to modify to do just that and make it retract the chain when folding. I'm talking about the Saint derailleur, 10 speed, but works flawlessly with 11 speed shifter and cassette.

So that's what I'm working on, modifying a bunch of Saint derailleurs. I had to buy a whole lot of them, more than I liked, so I will have to use it with every derailleur dropout kit I have made and will make in the future. In other words: I don't ofer these kits without the derailleur itself in case you fancy electronic shifting or have a Saint mech floating around...

You can call me old fashioned but I like bikes to be super reliable and easy serviceable, long lasting, be non electric, non electronic and be able to do repairs in the field with basic tools (road side repairs) for multi day bike adventures. So that's how I design my bikes and the parts that go with it. Hope that appeals to you!

Folding can best be done in or around the third gear. Bigger sprockets (lower gears) is better for chain retraction but the chain might derail / fall onto a smaller cog during transport because of running in such an extreme angle (when folded the effective chain stay length is much shorter putting the chain in a more extreme chainline) Therefore the advice is to shift to around the third gear. But feel free to experiment what works for you best. If the first gear works for you then even better.
